Summary


Several fake portals requesting beneficiaries' account details to get the Federal Government’s 2021 Survival Fund, check the N-Power Batch-C eligibility, and apply for CBN The COVID-19 Loan has been discovered to be circulating on the social media and through email messages to unsuspecting members of the public. These fraudsters parade themselves as operators of the Federal Government’s schemes.

Description & Consequence


The syndicates operates several fraudulent portals. The following are some of the identified phishing links, amongst others:

Members of the public are being asked to check their eligibility for the Covid-19 Survival Fund scheme and N-Power Batch-C Shortlisted Candidates for 2021, as well as click a link to apply for the CBN COVID-19 Loan by providing their account details on the portals in order to receive certain grants.

Visiting those fraudulent sites could be risky, since it could provide scammers access to sensitive data, allowing them to steal or disclose confidential personal information for nefarious objectives, and withdraw money from victims accounts.

Solution


  • To avoid downloading mobile trojans, avoid visiting those links.
  • Report fraudulent links to the Nigeria Computer Emergency Response Team (ngCERT) on incident@cert.gov.ng.
  • Avoid sharing sensitive banking details to untrusted websites.
  • Visit the actual organization’s websites for any verification or clarifications.
  • Be aware that government websites always end with (.gov.ng).
